&course=In the workplace&intro1=Welcome. My name is Alan Newell and I'm a School Careers Adviser. Many students come to me for advice about casual and part-time work. I'm expecting John any moment to talk to me about getting a casual job.&introNum=1&staff0=Welcome John. Sit down. Let's start.
&client1=Well I want to get a casual job while I'm still at school. Can you help me?
&staff1=Well, a good place to start is in the retail sector or in hospitality. It could be working in a supermarket or in a restaurant. There are also positions in the fast food industry. However be prepared to knock on doors, look in newspapers, or just ask around. Remember if you want a job you must be motivated and prepared to go and look for it.
&client2=What do I have to do to get organised?
&staff2=Good question, John. You must do some research and be prepared. Have you got a good resume? If not, that is the first step. Next thing to do is to find out what sort of job you would like. Have a look on the Internet. That could be useful.
&client3=So, where do I start looking?
&staff3=You can start by looking in the newspaper, asking friends and shop windows or noticeboards as well. You can also look on the Internet.
&client4=What are employers looking for? I haven't got any experience.
&staff4=The basic question for an employer is how will I benefit from employing this person? Your resume will tell an employer a lot about the type of person you are and what skills you already have. The interview will be very important so practise your interview skills.
&client5=Thanks Mr Newell.
&staff5=Good luck John. Don't forget to check out the school careers noticeboard too.
